Wu Yao-ting is a Taiwanese politician who served as the President of the Republic of China from 1988 to 2000. He was born on 20 June 1926 in Jiali, Tainan, Taiwan. He graduated from National Taiwan University in 1949 and received his master's degree in political science from the University of Chicago in 1952. Wu Yao-ting began his political career in the 1950s, serving as a member of the Legislative Yuan from 1954 to 1972. He was appointed as the Minister of Foreign Affairs in 1972 and served in that position until 1978. He was then appointed as the Vice President of the Republic of China in 1978 and served in that position until 1988. In 1988, Wu Yao-ting was elected as the President of the Republic of China and served in that position until 2000. During his tenure, he implemented a number of economic reforms and improved relations with mainland China. He also oversaw the transition of Taiwan from a one-party state to a multi-party democracy. Wu Yao-ting is currently 86 years old. He has a height of 5 feet 8 inches (1.73 m) and a net worth of $1 million. He is married to his wife, Chen Hsiu-lien, and they have two children.
