Yagub Ahmadov is a prominent Azerbaijani politician who served as the Prime Minister of Azerbaijan from 1992 to 1993. He was born on 7 May 1927 in Karadagli, Azerbaijan. Ahmadov graduated from the Azerbaijan State University in 1950 and worked as a teacher and a journalist before entering politics. He was a member of the Supreme Soviet of the Azerbaijan SSR from 1959 to 1989 and was elected as the Chairman of the Supreme Soviet in 1989. In 1992, Ahmadov was appointed as the Prime Minister of Azerbaijan and served in this position until 1993. During his tenure, he was instrumental in the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Party and was elected as its chairman in 1993. Ahmadov has also served as the Chairman of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan from 1995 to 2000. He is currently a member of the National Assembly and is the leader of the Azerbaijan Democratic Party. Ahmadov is married and has two children. He is 78 years old.

Sofig Huseynov, a neutral member of parliament of the 1st convocation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Azerbaijan, elected for the 48th Aghdam village electoral district, died on December 30, 1997, at the age of 47. Re-elections for the mandate vacated by Sofig Huseynov were scheduled for August 1998. Yagub Ahmadov, a neutral candidate for Aghdam village electoral district No. 48, was elected as a deputy after collecting 17,300 (49.7%) votes.
