Yamandu Costa is a Brazilian guitarist and composer. He is best known for his virtuosity on the seven-string guitar, a Brazilian instrument. He has released several albums, including his debut album, "Yamandu Costa" (2003), and his most recent album, "Viola Minha Viola" (2018). Costa was born in Passo Fundo, State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. He began playing the guitar at the age of seven, and by the age of twelve, he was already performing professionally. He studied classical guitar at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, and later studied with renowned Brazilian guitarist and composer, Paulo Bellinati. Costa has performed with some of the most renowned musicians in Brazil, including Hermeto Pascoal, Egberto Gismonti, and Toninho Horta. He has also performed with international artists such as John McLaughlin, Paco de Lucia, and Bireli Lagrene. Costa has won several awards, including the Latin Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Album in 2011 for his album "Yamandu Costa & Hamilton de Holanda: Dois Mundos".
