Yanko Shopov is a Bulgarian wrestler who was born on 9 August, 1954 in Bulgaria. He is a two-time Olympic medalist, having won a silver medal in the Greco-Roman wrestling at the 1980 Summer Olympics and a bronze medal in the same event at the 1984 Summer Olympics. He also won a gold medal at the 1983 World Championships in Greco-Roman wrestling. Shopov is considered one of the greatest Bulgarian wrestlers of all time. He was a four-time European champion and a six-time Bulgarian national champion. He was also a two-time World Cup winner and a two-time Balkan champion. Shopov retired from wrestling in 1988 and has since been involved in coaching and refereeing. He is currently the president of the Bulgarian Wrestling Federation. He is married and has two children.
