Yu Mingfang is best known for his contributions to the development of China's nuclear weapons program. He was the chief designer of the first Chinese atomic bomb and the first hydrogen bomb. He also played a major role in the development of China's first nuclear submarine. Yu Mingfang has been awarded numerous honors for his contributions to China's nuclear weapons program, including the National Science and Technology Progress Award, the National Natural Science Award, and the National Technology Invention Award.
