Zuleikha Yunus Haji is a Tanzanian politician and diplomat who served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Tanzania from 2015 to 2020. She was born in Zanzibar, Tanzania, and is the daughter of former President of Zanzibar, Ali Hassan Mwinyi. Haji attended the University of Dar es Salaam, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and International Relations. She then went on to pursue a Master of Arts degree in International Relations from the University of London. Haji began her career in the Tanzanian government in the 1980s, serving as a diplomat in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She was appointed as the Permanent Representative of Tanzania to the United Nations in New York in 1997, and served in this role until 2002. In 2015, Haji was appointed as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Tanzania, a position she held until 2020. During her tenure, she was instrumental in the establishment of the East African Community, and in the negotiation of the African Continental Free Trade Area. Haji is married to former Tanzanian Prime Minister Edward Lowassa, and they have two children. She is 64 years old.
