Andrews Otutu Obaseki was born into a royal family in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria. He attended the Government College, Ibadan, and then went on to study law at the University of London. After graduating, he returned to Nigeria and was called to the bar in 1954. He began his legal career in the chambers of Chief Rotimi Williams, and then went on to become a partner in the firm of Chief F.R.A. Williams & Co. He was appointed a Queen's Counsel in 1965, and was later appointed a Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 1979. In addition to his legal career, Obaseki has held a number of public offices. He was a member of the Nigerian Constituent Assembly in 1978, and was appointed a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 1979. He was also a member of the Nigerian Constitutional Conference in 1994, and was appointed a Justice of the Court of Appeal in 1995. Obaseki is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, the International Bar Association, and the Commonwealth Lawyers Association. He is also a member of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, and the Nigerian Institute of Management. Obaseki is married to Lady Eunice Obaseki, and they have four children. He is 91 years old.
