Anton Winkler is a former West German luger who competed from the mid-1970s to the mid-1980s. He won two medals at the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck with a gold in the men's doubles and a bronze in the men's singles. He also won two medals at the FIL World Luge Championships with a gold in the men's doubles (1977) and a bronze in the men's singles (1978). Winkler was born on 23 February 1954 in Bischofswiesen, Germany. He began competing in luge in the mid-1970s and quickly rose to prominence, winning the West German national championship in 1975. He went on to win two medals at the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, a gold in the men's doubles and a bronze in the men's singles. He also won two medals at the FIL World Luge Championships with a gold in the men's doubles (1977) and a bronze in the men's singles (1978). Winkler retired from competitive luge in the mid-1980s and has since become a coach and mentor to young luge athletes. He currently resides in Bischofswiesen, Germany.
