Antônio Alberto Guimarães Rezende was a Brazilian politician and lawyer who served as the Governor of Minas Gerais from 1983 to 1987. He was born in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, on 3 March 1926. He was the son of Antônio Guimarães Rezende and Maria de Lourdes Guimarães Rezende. Rezende graduated in Law from the Federal University of Minas Gerais in 1950. He was a member of the Brazilian Democratic Movement (MDB) and was elected Governor of Minas Gerais in 1982. During his term, he implemented several reforms in the state, such as the creation of the Minas Gerais Development Bank (BDMG) and the Minas Gerais Investment Fund (FIPEMG). Rezende was also a member of the Brazilian Academy of Letters and the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. He died on 15 April 2015, at the age of 89.
