Avati began his career in the film industry in the early 1970s, working as an assistant director on films such as The House with Laughing Windows (1976) and The Church (1989). He then went on to produce and direct his own films, such as The Sect (1991) and The House of the Laughing Windows (1996). Avati has also written several books, including The Art of Horror (1996) and The Art of Fear (1998).
