Antonio José González Zumárraga is an Ecuadorian politician and diplomat who served as the President of Ecuador from 1984 to 1988. He was born in Pujili, Ecuador, on 18 March 1925. He studied law at the Central University of Ecuador and obtained a doctorate in political science from the University of Madrid. González Zumárraga began his political career in the 1950s, when he was elected to the Ecuadorian Congress. He served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1972 to 1976 and as Minister of Education from 1976 to 1979. In 1984, he was elected President of Ecuador and served until 1988. During his presidency, González Zumárraga implemented a number of economic reforms, including the privatization of state-owned companies and the liberalization of foreign investment. He also sought to improve relations with the United States and other Latin American countries. González Zumárraga is currently 83 years old. He has a height of 5 feet 8 inches (1.73 m).
