Antonios Varthalitis was a Greek politician and lawyer who served as the Prime Minister of Greece from 1965 to 1966. He was born in Vari, Syros, on 1 January 1924. Varthalitis studied law at the University of Athens and was a member of the Greek Parliament from 1956 to 1967. He was a member of the Centre Union party and served as Minister of Justice from 1964 to 1965. In 1965, he was appointed Prime Minister of Greece and served until 1966. Varthalitis was a strong advocate of the Greek-Turkish rapprochement and was instrumental in the signing of the Treaty of Ankara in 1966. He also served as the President of the Greek Council of State from 1967 to 1974. Varthalitis died on 28 April 2007 at the age of 83. He was survived by his wife, two sons, and two daughters.
