Anup Kumar was born in Calcutta, Bengal Presidency, British India, on 17 June 1930. He is an Indian film actor who has appeared in over 200 films in Hindi, Bengali, and Oriya. He is best known for his roles in films such as Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi (1958), Anari (1959), and Chhoti Si Baat (1975). Anup Kumar started his career as a theatre actor in the 1950s. He made his film debut in the Bengali film, Jiban Trishna (1954). He then went on to appear in several Hindi films, including Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi (1958), Anari (1959), and Chhoti Si Baat (1975). He has also acted in several Oriya films, including Sita Bibaha (1966) and Bhai Hela Bhagari (1967). Anup Kumar has won several awards for his performances, including the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi (1958). He was also awarded the Padma Shri in 1992 for his contribution to Indian cinema. Anup Kumar is married to actress Uma Devi, and the couple has two children. He currently resides in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
