Aparna Sen is an Indian actress, director, and screenwriter. She is best known for her work in Bengali cinema, and has won several awards, including four National Film Awards and eight Filmfare Awards. She has also directed several critically acclaimed films, including 36 Chowringhee Lane (1982), Paroma (1984), Yugant (1995), Mr. and Mrs. Iyer (2002), 15 Park Avenue (2005), and Goynar Baksho (2013). Sen was born on 25 October 1945 in Calcutta, Bengal Presidency, British India. She is the daughter of the renowned filmmaker and actor Chidananda Dasgupta. She studied at the Calcutta University and graduated with a degree in English literature. Sen made her acting debut in the Bengali film Shesh Kothay in 1966. She has since appeared in numerous films, including 36 Chowringhee Lane (1982), Paroma (1984), Yugant (1995), Mr. and Mrs. Iyer (2002), 15 Park Avenue (2005), and Goynar Baksho (2013).
