Apus was born in the Bahamas to Montrose B. Morse and his wife, a Bahamian woman. He was raised in the Bahamas and attended school there until he was sixteen. He then moved to the United States and attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City. Apus began his career in the theater, appearing in a number of Broadway productions. He made his film debut in the 1932 film The Mask of Fu Manchu. He went on to appear in a number of other films, including The Big Broadcast of 1938, The Adventures of Robin Hood, and The Mark of Zorro. Apus was married twice, first to actress Mary Astor and then to actress Joan Blondell. He had two children with Astor and one with Blondell. Apus was a popular character actor in Hollywood for many years. He was known for his roles in films such as The Mark of Zorro, The Big Broadcast of 1938, and The Adventures of Robin Hood. Apus died on October 15, 1975 in Los Angeles, California. He was 72 years old. At the time of his death, Apus had an estimated net worth of $2 million. He earned his wealth through his acting career, appearing in over 100 films and television shows.
