Arthur Fitt was born on 12 February, 1928 in Australia. He was a professional footballer who played for the South Melbourne Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Fitt was a wingman who was known for his speed and agility. He was a member of South Melbourne's 1945 premiership team and was a regular in the side until his retirement in 1952. Fitt was a life member of the South Melbourne Football Club and was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 1996. Fitt was married to his wife, Jean, for over 60 years and had two children. He passed away in 2019 at the age of 95. Fitt was a successful businessman after his football career, owning a number of businesses in the Melbourne area. He was also a keen golfer and was a member of the Royal Melbourne Golf Club.
