Austin Ainge is an American professional basketball executive and former college basketball player. He is currently the Executive Director of Player Personnel for the Boston Celtics of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Ainge was born on September 29, 1981 in Gilbert, Arizona. He is the son of former NBA player and executive Danny Ainge and the brother of former NBA player and current ESPN analyst Travis Ainge. He attended Mountain View High School in Mesa, Arizona, where he was a three-year letterman in basketball and a two-year letterman in baseball. Ainge played college basketball at Brigham Young University (BYU) from 2000 to 2004. He was a two-time All-Mountain West Conference selection and was named the conference's Player of the Year in 2004. He finished his college career with 1,717 points, which ranks him fourth all-time in BYU history. After college, Ainge played professionally in the NBA Development League and overseas in Europe. He retired from playing in 2008 and joined the Celtics' front office as a scout. In 2013, he was promoted to Director of Player Personnel and in 2016, he was promoted to Executive Director of Player Personnel. In May, 2011 Ainge was named Director of Player Personnel for the Boston Celtics. Previously Ainge performed scouting duties for the Celtics organization. As a part of this position, he worked with Celtics rookies J.R. Giddens and Bill Walker while they were on assignment with the Utah Flash of the NBA Development League.

2006

Prior to coaching, Ainge had a successful basketball career at Brigham Young University where he was a two-time team captain leading BYU to two Mountain West Conference championships, three NCAA tournaments and one NIT appearance. Ainge was named All-Conference Honorable Mention twice. During the 2006–07 season he led the MWC in 3-point field goal percentage at 52.5% and was one of the best three-point shooters in the nation.
