Auxence Contout is a French Guianese writer and poet. He was born on 4 February 1925 in Cayenne, French Guiana. He is best known for his works in French Guianese literature, including his novel "Le Cri des îles" (The Cry of the Islands). Contout studied at the Lycée Schoelcher in Cayenne and then at the University of Paris. He was a professor of French literature at the University of French Guiana from 1965 to 1985. Contout has published several books of poetry, including "Le Cri des îles" (The Cry of the Islands), "Le Chant des îles" (The Song of the Islands), and "Le Rêve des îles" (The Dream of the Islands). He has also written several plays, including "La Nuit des îles" (The Night of the Islands) and "Le Jour des îles" (The Day of the Islands). Contout has received numerous awards for his work, including the Prix de la Francophonie in 1985 and the Prix de la Littérature de la Caraïbe in 1988. He was also awarded the Grand Prix de la Francophonie in 1995. Contout is currently 95 years old.
