Avey Tare was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and grew up in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. He attended the University of Maryland, College Park, where he studied film and video. He began playing music with his friends Noah Lennox (Panda Bear) and Brian Weitz (Geologist) in the late 1990s, and the trio formed Animal Collective in 2000. Avey Tare has released four solo albums, Down There (2010), Enter the Slasher House (2014), Eucalyptus (2017), and Cows on Hourglass Pond (2019).
