Benny Tetamashimba is a Zambian politician who served as the Minister of Finance from 2001 to 2008. He was born on 27 July 1955 in Northwestern Province, Zambia. He is currently 64 years old. Tetamashimba attended the University of Zambia, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Political Science. He also holds a Master of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Manchester. Tetamashimba began his career in the public sector in 1979, when he was appointed as a research officer in the Ministry of Finance. He then served as the Deputy Secretary to the Treasury from 1983 to 1988. In 1989, he was appointed as the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance. In 2001, Tetamashimba was appointed as the Minister of Finance, a position he held until 2008. During his tenure, he was credited with introducing a number of reforms to the Zambian economy, including the introduction of the Value Added Tax (VAT) and the privatization of state-owned enterprises. Tetamashimba is currently the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Zambia National Commercial Bank. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Zambia Institute of Policy Analysis and Research. Tetamashimba is married and has three children.
