Bernard Wolfman is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Pennsylvania Law School. He is a renowned tax law scholar and has written extensively on the subject. He has also served as a consultant to the U.S. Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service. Wolfman was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and attended the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned his B.A. in 1945 and his LL.B. in 1948. He then went on to earn his LL.M. from Harvard Law School in 1951. Wolfman began his career as a law clerk for Judge John Biggs, Jr. of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. He then joined the faculty of the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1954, where he taught for over 40 years. He was named the Joseph J. Aresty Professor of Law in 1971 and was appointed the first Aresty Professor of Tax Law in 1975. Wolfman has written numerous books and articles on tax law, including Tax Planning for Corporate Acquisitions, Mergers, and Reorganizations (with Stephen A. Lind and Stephen Schwarz) and Federal Income Taxation of Corporations and Shareholders (with Stephen Schwarz).
