Betty Lou Baker is an American novelist and short story writer. She was born in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, on June 20, 1928. She attended Bloomsburg State College and graduated with a degree in English in 1950. Baker has written several novels, including The Summer of the Swans (1970), which won the 1971 Newbery Medal, and The Pinballs (1977), which was a National Book Award finalist. She has also written numerous short stories, which have been published in magazines such as The Saturday Evening Post, Redbook, and McCall's. Baker is married to Robert Baker, and they have two children. She currently lives in Pennsylvania.
