Bijoya Ray was an Indian actress and music director who was active in the film industry from the 1940s to the 1970s. She was born on 25 October 1918 in Assam Province, British India. She was best known for her roles in films such as ‘Agni Pariksha’ (1954), ‘Chiriyakhana’ (1967), ‘Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne’ (1969) and ‘Hirak Rajar Deshe’ (1980). Bijoya Ray was a versatile actress who could play both comic and serious roles. She was also a talented music director and composed music for several films. She was awarded the Padma Shri in 1971 for her contribution to the Indian film industry. Bijoya Ray passed away on 15 April, 2020 at the age of 101.
