Bishwa Bandhu Thapa was born on 1927 in Nepal. He is a Nepalese politician who served as the Prime Minister of Nepal from 1963 to 1964 and from 1969 to 1970. He was also the leader of the Nepali Congress party from 1963 to 1970. Thapa was born in a family of the Thapa clan of the Gurung ethnic group. He studied at the Padma Kanya College in Kathmandu and later at the Banaras Hindu University in India. He was a member of the Nepali Congress party and was elected to the National Assembly in 1959. Thapa was appointed Prime Minister of Nepal in 1963 and served until 1964. He was again appointed Prime Minister in 1969 and served until 1970. During his tenure, he implemented several reforms, including the introduction of a new constitution and the establishment of a multiparty system. Thapa was also a strong advocate of democracy and human rights. He was a vocal critic of the autocratic rule of King Mahendra and was arrested several times for his political activities. He was also a strong advocate of the rights of the indigenous people of Nepal. Thapa died in 2020 at the age of 96. He was survived by his wife, two sons, and two daughters.
