Bob Schieffer is an American broadcast journalist and former anchor of the CBS Evening News. He is also a correspondent for CBS News and a contributor to CBS Sunday Morning. He has been with CBS News since 1969, and has been a part of the CBS Evening News since 1973. Schieffer was born in Austin, Texas, and graduated from Texas Christian University in 1959. He began his career in journalism as a reporter for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. He then joined CBS News in 1969, and was named anchor of the CBS Evening News in 1991. He held the position until 2005, when he was succeeded by Katie Couric. Schieffer has won numerous awards for his work, including eight Emmys, the Edward R. Murrow Award, and the Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism. He was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame in 2004.
