Bob Trice was an American professional baseball player who played in the Negro Leagues and Major League Baseball. He was born on August 28, 1926 in Kansas City, Kansas. He attended Sumner High School in Kansas City, Kansas, and then attended the University of Kansas. Trice made his professional debut in the Negro Leagues in 1945 with the Kansas City Monarchs. He then played for the Newark Eagles in 1946 and 1947. In 1948, he signed with the Philadelphia Athletics and became the first African-American to play for the team. He made his major league debut on April 22, 1953, becoming the first African-American to play for the Athletics. Trice played in the major leagues for three seasons, from 1953 to 1955. He had a career batting average of .245 with 11 home runs and 64 runs batted in. He also had a career record of 15-19 with a 4.45 earned run average. Trice retired from baseball in 1956 and returned to Kansas City, where he worked as a postal worker. He died on April 27, 2005, at the age of 78. At the time of his death, Trice had an estimated net worth of $1 million.

Trice's professional career began with the Negro league Homestead Grays, where he played from 1948 to 1950. He was brought to Philadelphia in 1953 after winning 21 games for the Ottawa A's of the International League. When Trice made his major league debut (September 13, 1953 at Connie Mack Stadium), he became the first black player in Athletics history. He appeared in three games for the A's that season, winning 2 and losing 1. He lost his first start, 5-2, to Don Larsen and the St. Louis Browns, but then defeated the Washington Senators in each of his other two starts.
