Bobby Henderson is an American author, physicist, and satirist best known for founding the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, a parody religion. He was born on July 18, 1980 in Roseburg, Oregon. Henderson graduated from Oregon State University in 2002 with a degree in physics. He then went on to work as a software engineer for Intel Corporation. In 2005, Henderson wrote an open letter to the Kansas State Board of Education in response to their decision to introduce intelligent design as an alternative to evolution in public school science classes. In the letter, Henderson proposed that the Flying Spaghetti Monster be taught alongside intelligent design as an alternative theory. Henderson's letter went viral and the Flying Spaghetti Monster became an international phenomenon. In 2006, Henderson published The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, a satirical book about the religion. Henderson has since become an advocate for the separation of church and state and has spoken at numerous conferences and events. He has also written several books, including The Loose Canon: A History of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster and The Pastafarian Guide to Life.
