Brad Smith is an American musician, songwriter, and producer. He is best known for his work with the alternative rock band Blind Melon, which he co-founded in 1990. He has also released several solo albums and collaborated with other artists. Smith was born on September 29, 1968 in West Point, Mississippi. He began playing guitar at the age of 12 and was influenced by blues, folk, and rock music. He attended the University of Southern Mississippi, where he studied music theory and composition. In 1990, Smith co-founded Blind Melon with vocalist Shannon Hoon, guitarist Rogers Stevens, bassist Brad Smith, and drummer Glen Graham. The band released their self-titled debut album in 1992, which spawned the hit single "No Rain". The band released two more albums before disbanding in 1999. In 2000, Smith released his debut solo album, The Great Cessation. He has since released two more solo albums, as well as several EPs and singles. He has also collaborated with other artists, including Ben Harper, Chris Robinson, and John Doe. Smith currently lives in Los Angeles, California. He is 53 years old.
