Brahma Nath Katju was born on 24 May, 1927 in India. He was an Indian lawyer and politician who served as the Chief Justice of India from 1968 to 1973. He was also a member of the Indian National Congress and served as the Governor of Madhya Pradesh from 1973 to 1977. Katju was born in a Hindu family in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. He studied at the University of Allahabad and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1947. He then went on to study law at the Allahabad University and obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1949. Katju began his legal career in 1950 and was appointed as a judge of the Allahabad High Court in 1964. He was appointed as the Chief Justice of India in 1968 and served in that position until 1973. During his tenure, he was responsible for several landmark judgments, including the famous Kesavananda Bharati case. Katju was also a member of the Indian National Congress and served as the Governor of Madhya Pradesh from 1973 to 1977. He was also a member of the Rajya Sabha from 1977 to 1982. Katju passed away on 28 April, 2020 at the age of 96.
