Brent Symonette is a Bahamian politician and businessman who has served as the Deputy Prime Minister of the Bahamas since 2017. He is the leader of the Free National Movement (FNM) and a Member of Parliament for the St. Anne's constituency. Symonette was born in Nassau, The Bahamas, on 2 December 1954. He is the son of Sir Roland Symonette, the first Prime Minister of the Bahamas. He attended St. Andrew's School and graduated from the University of Miami in 1977 with a degree in business administration. Symonette began his career in the banking industry, working for the Royal Bank of Canada and then the Bank of Nova Scotia. He then moved into the private sector, founding a number of companies, including Symonette Shipping, Symonette Construction, and Symonette Insurance. Symonette entered politics in 1992, when he was elected to the House of Assembly as a Member of Parliament for the St. Anne's constituency. He was re-elected in 1997 and 2002. In 2007, he was appointed Minister of Financial Services and Investments. In 2017, he was appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance. Symonette is also an established real estate broker.
