Bruce Larson (basketball) was a basketball coach who was born on 12 August, 1926 in Fargo, North Dakota. He attended North Dakota State University, where he played basketball and graduated in 1950. He began his coaching career at the high school level, coaching at Fargo Central High School from 1950 to 1954. He then moved on to the college level, coaching at North Dakota State University from 1954 to 1965. During his time at NDSU, he led the Bison to three NCAA tournament appearances and two NIT appearances. In 1965, Larson moved to the professional level, becoming the head coach of the NBA's Chicago Bulls. He coached the Bulls for two seasons, leading them to the playoffs in both years. In 1967, Larson returned to the college level, becoming the head coach at the University of Minnesota. He coached the Golden Gophers for seven seasons, leading them to two NCAA tournament appearances and one NIT appearance. Larson retired from coaching in 1974 and returned to Fargo, where he lived until his death in 2020 at the age of 95. Throughout his career, Larson was known for his intense coaching style and his ability to motivate his players. He was inducted into the North Dakota Sports Hall of Fame in 1982.
