He is a graduate of the École Polytechnique and the École des Mines de Paris. Lafont has held various positions in the French government, including as a member of the Conseil d'Analyse Economique, a body of economic advisors to the French Prime Minister. He was also a member of the board of directors of the French energy company GDF Suez. In 2006, Lafont was appointed CEO of Lafarge, a position he held until 2015. During his tenure, Lafarge's revenue increased from €14.5 billion to €17.7 billion. He also oversaw the company's expansion into emerging markets, such as India and China. Lafont is a member of the board of directors of the French energy company Total, and is a member of the board of trustees of the Institut de France. He is also a member of the board of directors of the French bank BNP Paribas. As of 2021, Bruno Lafont's net worth is estimated to be around $20 million.
