Carolyn Hewson is an Australian business leader who has held a number of senior executive positions in the corporate world. She is currently the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). Hewson was born in 1955 in Australia and attended the University of Sydney, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1977. She then went on to pursue a Master of Business Administration from the University of New South Wales in 1981. Hewson began her career in the banking industry, working for the National Australia Bank and the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. She then moved into the corporate world, taking up a number of senior executive positions at companies such as BHP Billiton, Telstra, and the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. In 2011, Hewson was appointed as the Chair of the Board of Directors of the ABC. She has held this position ever since, and has been credited with helping to modernise the organisation and improve its financial performance. Hewson is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management.
