See attended the University of California, Los Angeles, where she earned a B.A. in English in 1956. She then went on to earn an M.A. in English from the same university in 1958. See has written several novels, including Dreaming, The Handyman, and Golden Days. She has also written several non-fiction books, including Making a Literary Life, and has contributed to numerous magazines and newspapers, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Los Angeles Times.
