Catherine Widgery is an American artist born in 1953 in Pittsburgh, PA. She is best known for her large-scale public art installations, which often incorporate elements of nature and technology. Widgery has exhibited her work in numerous galleries and museums around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Whitney Museum of American Art. Widgery received her BFA from Carnegie Mellon University in 1975 and her MFA from the University of California, Davis in 1979. She has taught at numerous universities, including the University of California, Davis, the San Francisco Art Institute, and the California College of the Arts. Widgery has received numerous awards and honors, including a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1992, a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in 1994, and a Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant in 1998.
