Cees Gravesteijn is a Dutch canoeist who was born on 21 April, 1928. He is a two-time Olympic champion, having won gold medals in the K-2 1000 m event at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne and the K-2 500 m event at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome. Gravesteijn began his career in canoeing in the 1950s, and quickly rose to prominence in the sport. He won his first international medal in 1954, a bronze in the K-2 1000 m event at the European Championships in Copenhagen. He went on to win gold medals in the K-2 1000 m event at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne and the K-2 500 m event at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome. Gravesteijn was also a successful coach, having coached the Dutch national team from 1965 to 1972. He was inducted into the International Canoe Federation Hall of Fame in 2004.
