In 1973, he founded Cablevision Systems Corporation, which became one of the largest cable television companies in the United States. In 1975, Dolan founded Home Box Office (HBO), the first pay-TV network. He also founded the Madison Square Garden Company, which owns the New York Knicks and the New York Rangers. In 2011, he founded AMC Networks, which owns the AMC, IFC, and Sundance Channel networks. Dolan is a philanthropist and has donated millions of dollars to various charities. He is also a member of the board of trustees of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
