Chava Alberstein is an Israeli singer-songwriter and musician. She is one of the most influential and beloved figures in Israeli music, having released over 70 albums since her debut in 1967. She has been awarded the Israel Prize, the highest honor in Israel, for her contribution to Israeli culture. Alberstein was born in Tel Aviv, Israel, to a family of Polish-Jewish immigrants. She began her musical career at the age of 15, when she was invited to perform at a local club. She soon became a regular performer at the club, and began to write her own songs. Alberstein has released over 70 albums, and has collaborated with many of the most prominent Israeli musicians, including Ehud Banai, Yoni Rechter, and Shlomo Gronich. She has also collaborated with international artists such as Leonard Cohen, Joan Baez, and Bob Dylan. Alberstein has been awarded the Israel Prize, the highest honor in Israel, for her contribution to Israeli culture. She has also been awarded the Yakir Yerushalayim award, the highest honor given by the city of Jerusalem. In addition, she has been awarded the EMET Prize, the highest honor given by the Israeli government.
