Cheeta is an American actor who is best known for his role as Tarzan's chimpanzee companion in the Tarzan films of the 1930s and 1940s. He was born on April 9, 1932 in North Hollywood, California. Cheeta's real name is Jiggs, and he was originally owned by animal trainer Tony Gentry. He was trained to perform various stunts and tricks, and he quickly became a popular attraction in Hollywood. Cheeta's first film role was in the 1932 film Tarzan the Ape Man, and he went on to appear in a total of 12 Tarzan films. He also appeared in a number of other films, including The Big Cage (1933), The Bride of Frankenstein (1935), and The Wizard of Oz (1939). Cheeta retired from acting in the late 1940s and was adopted by animal trainer and Tarzan co-star, Johnny Weissmuller. He lived with Weissmuller until the actor's death in 1984. Cheeta is now believed to be the oldest living chimpanzee in the world. He currently lives at the Suncoast Primate Sanctuary in Palm Harbor, Florida. Cheeta's estimated net worth is unknown.
