Chip Cronkite is an American journalist, producer, and actor. He is best known for his work as an anchor for the CBS Evening News from 1962 to 1981. He is also known for his work as a correspondent for the CBS News program 60 Minutes. Cronkite was born in New York City on April 22, 1957. He attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned a degree in journalism. After college, he began his career as a reporter for the Houston Chronicle. In 1962, Cronkite was hired by CBS News to become the anchor of the CBS Evening News. He quickly became one of the most respected and trusted journalists in the country. He was known for his straightforward and unbiased reporting style. Cronkite was also a correspondent for the CBS News program 60 Minutes. He was a frequent contributor to the show, appearing in more than 200 episodes. In 1981, Cronkite retired from CBS News and began a career as a producer and actor. He produced several documentaries and appeared in several films and television shows. Cronkite was married to Betsy Maxwell Cronkite from 1940 until her death in 2005.
