Choi Bae-geun is a South Korean educator, economist, and politician. He was born in Seoul, South Korea, on April 12, 1959. He graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in economics and received his master's degree in economics from the University of Chicago. He began his career as a professor at Seoul National University in 1988 and served as the president of the Korea Institute of Public Finance from 2000 to 2002. He was appointed as the Minister of Education in 2002 and served until 2003. In 2004, he was elected to the National Assembly of South Korea and served as the chairman of the Education, Culture, Sports, and Tourism Committee. He was re-elected in 2008 and served as the chairman of the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts. In 2012, he was appointed as the Minister of Education, Science and Technology and served until 2013. He was also appointed as the Minister of Strategy and Finance in 2013 and served until 2014.
