Choong Shiau Yoon is a Malaysian politician who has served as the Member of Parliament for Ipoh Timur since 2008. He is a member of the Democratic Action Party (DAP). Yoon was born on 7 December 1957 in Ipoh, Malaysia. He received his early education at the Methodist Boys' School in Ipoh and later attended the University of Malaya, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. Yoon began his political career in the early 1980s, when he joined the DAP. He was elected to the Ipoh City Council in 1986 and served as its mayor from 1988 to 1990. In 2008, he was elected to the Malaysian Parliament, representing the Ipoh Timur constituency. Yoon is married to Tan Siew Hoon and they have two children. He is an avid golfer and enjoys playing the game in his spare time.
