He has also written several picture books, including The Amazing Age of John Roy Lynch, The Amazing Flight of Darius Frobisher, and The Not-So-Great Outdoors. Barton has won numerous awards for his work, including the Texas Institute of Letters Award for Best Children's Book, the International Reading Association Award for Best Children's Book, and the Ezra Jack Keats New Writer Award.
