Chris Foley was born in 1956 in Australia. He is the son of John Foley and Mary Foley. He attended the University of Sydney, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1978. Foley began his political career in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly in 1988, representing the seat of Auburn. He was re-elected in 1991, 1995, 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2011. He served as the Minister for Education and Training from 1995 to 1999, and as the Minister for Health from 1999 to 2003. Foley retired from politics in 2015, after 27 years in the Legislative Assembly. He is currently a director of the Sydney Cricket Ground Trust and a member of the board of the Sydney Swans Football Club. Foley is married to his wife, Anne, and they have two children. He is a keen sports fan and enjoys playing golf and tennis.
