Chuck Barris is best known for creating and hosting the game show The Gong Show, which ran from 1976 to 1980. He also created and produced The Dating Game and The Newlywed Game. Barris was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to a Jewish family. He attended Drexel University and dropped out in his junior year. He then worked as a page at NBC in New York City. Barris began his career in television in the 1950s as a writer and producer for game shows. He created The Dating Game in 1965 and The Newlywed Game in 1966. He also wrote and produced the game show The Gong Show, which ran from 1976 to 1980. Barris also wrote and produced several feature films, including The Gong Show Movie (1980) and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2002). He also wrote the autobiography Confessions of a Dangerous Mind: An Unauthorized Autobiography, which was adapted into the film of the same name. Barris was married three times and had two children. He died on March 21, 2017, at the age of 87.
