Claude Criquielion is a Belgian former professional road bicycle racer. He was born on 11 January 1957 in Lessines, Belgium. He was a professional cyclist from 1979 to 1992. Criquielion won the 1984 UCI Road World Championships in Barcelona, Spain. He also won the Tour of Flanders in 1985 and the Amstel Gold Race in 1987. He was a three-time winner of the Belgian National Road Race Championships (1982, 1983, and 1988). Criquielion was a member of the Flandria-Velda team from 1979 to 1981, the Panasonic team from 1982 to 1984, the Hitachi team from 1985 to 1986, the ADR team from 1987 to 1988, and the Lotto team from 1989 to 1992. Criquielion retired from professional cycling in 1992. He is currently a cycling commentator for the Belgian television channel RTBF. As of 2021, Claude Criquielion's net worth is estimated to be around $1 million.

2015

In the night of 15 to 16 February 2015, Criquielion suffered a cerebrovascular accident and he was hospitalized in critical condition. Criquelion died at 9:00 AM on 18 February 2015 in a hospital in Aalst.

2013

Criquielion was directeur sportif of the Lotto–Adecco team from 2000 to 2004. His son, Mathieu Criquielion, turned professional for the Landbouwkrediet-Colnago team in 2005; Claude Criquielion became the team's manager.

2006

From 2006 until his death Criquielion was an alderman for the liberal MR in Lessines.

1988

Criquielion was well placed to win a medal in the 1988 world road race championship in Belgium. However, he crashed in sight of the line when another competitor, Steve Bauer of Canada, clashed with him. The third rider, Maurizio Fondriest, went on to win. Bauer was disqualified and Criquielion sued Bauer for assault, asking for $1.5 million in damages in a case that lasted more than three years before the judge ruled in Bauer's favor.

1985

At the national championship race in 1985, he tested positive for Pervitin, but received no repercussions. The head of the laboratory at Ghent University, which had administered the analysis, subsequently resigned his post in the Medical Commission of the Belgian Cycling Association (KBWB) in protest.
