Claudio Gilberto Froehlich was a Brazilian composer, conductor, and musicologist. He was born in São Paulo, Brazil, and studied music at the Conservatório Dramático e Musical de São Paulo. He was a professor at the University of São Paulo and the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Froehlich was a prolific composer, writing over 200 works for orchestra, chamber music, and solo instruments. He was also a conductor, leading the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra, the São Paulo State Orchestra, and the São Paulo Municipal Symphony Orchestra. Froehlich was a member of the Brazilian Academy of Music and the Brazilian Academy of Letters. He was awarded the Order of Rio Branco by the Brazilian government in recognition of his contributions to Brazilian music. Froehlich died on April 8, 2021, at the age of 96.
