Connie Palmen is a Dutch writer and journalist. She was born on 25 November 1955 in the Dutch city of Maastricht. She studied Dutch language and literature at the University of Amsterdam and worked as a journalist for the Dutch newspaper NRC Handelsblad. Palmen is best known for her novels, which often explore themes of love, loss, and identity. Her first novel, De verdwijning (The Disappearance), was published in 1988 and was an immediate success. It was followed by De verliefde (The Lover, 1991), De verliefde man (The Lover Man, 1995), and De verliefde vrouw (The Lover Woman, 1998). Her most recent novel, De verliefde stad (The Lover City, 2011), was awarded the AKO Literature Prize. Palmen has also written several non-fiction books, including a biography of Dutch writer Willem Frederik Hermans and a collection of essays on literature and culture. Palmen is married to Dutch writer and journalist Jan Brokken. They have two children.
