Cy Touff was an American jazz musician and composer. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, on March 4, 1927. He began playing the trumpet at the age of nine and was a professional musician by the age of sixteen. He studied at the Chicago Conservatory of Music and the American Conservatory of Music. Touff was a member of the Woody Herman Orchestra from 1947 to 1949, and then joined the Stan Kenton Orchestra in 1950. He also worked with Benny Goodman, Charlie Ventura, and other jazz greats. He was a prolific composer, writing over 200 compositions, including "The Goof and I," "The Big Push," and "The Big Dipper." Touff was a member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences and was inducted into the Jazz Hall of Fame in 2004. He died on April 28, 2003, at the age of 76. Touff was married to his wife, Mary, for over 50 years. He had two children, a son and a daughter. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing the piano. He was also a collector of jazz memorabilia.
