Daisuke Yamashita is a Japanese former professional baseball player, manager, and coach. He was born on March 5, 1952 in Shizuoka, Japan. He played for the Yomiuri Giants from 1972 to 1985, and was a member of the team's Japan Series championship teams in 1979 and 1983. He was also a member of the Japanese national team that won the gold medal at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. After retiring as a player, Yamashita became a coach and manager. He managed the Yomiuri Giants from 1997 to 2000, and was the manager of the Japanese national team that won the gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He was also the manager of the Japanese team that won the 2009 World Baseball Classic. Yamashita is currently the manager of the Yomiuri Giants. He is 68 years old.
